We hope this letter finds you well. We had a busy summer here in Greenville SC working at our jobs and moving into a new apartment. John-Mark has also been working on finishing his Master’s degree at Columbia International University. We also found out some wonderful news recently –we have a baby on the way! Our due date is April 17th and we could not be more excited!
Back in May we were officially accepted to serve as missionaries with SIM. SIM is a diverse mission board with missionaries from many countries, cultures and denominations serving all around the world. Our goal is to move to Liberia, West Africa in July 2012 to join the SIM team working there. We plan to work primarily with the Manya; an unreached people group living in northern Liberia. John-Mark’s call to missions was confirmed while serving in Liberia with Samaritan’s Purse. He saw God bring many Manya to faith in Christ through a Community Health Evangelism program. Sara grew to love Liberia on two short-term trips during her college years.
During our two-year term, we hope to train leaders for the emerging Manya churches and equip believers to reach their unsaved relatives and neighbors with the gospel. John-Mark would also love to translate scripture resources into the Manya language. Sara will work at learning the language and culture of the Manya, while maintaining the home, and looking for opportunities to bring hope, encouragement and counsel to those around her. Through consultation with the SIM finance department, it has been determined that the monthly cost of living and ministering in Liberia for our family of three will be $4,652. The one-time cost of preparing, moving, and settling in Liberia is estimated at $51,713.
During this time of preparation we have been blessed by the many people who have encouraged us in our ministry plans. We need to develop a strong team of prayer and financial supporters before heading to Liberia. Would you pray with us during this time?
